James Higgins consolidated his position in the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA standings at Thruxton this past weekend (8-9 June) as he continued his impressive points-scoring run with a trio of top-eight finishes.
The Rodin Motorsport driver underlined his credentials as one of the leading lights in the single-seater series as he continued his impressive early-season form, which has seen him score points in all but one race so far this year.
After missing one of Friday’s two practice sessions due to sitting an exam at school, Higgins frustratingly found himself out of luck once again when it came to qualifying on Saturday.
For a second successive meeting, the BRDC Rising Star paced the opposition in what was a frenetic session to clinch pole position, only to the have it taken away from him for a track limits infringement; which demoted him back down the order.
Starting on the fifth row of the grid for the weekend’s opening encounter, the multiple race winner demonstrated his ability to fight his way forward by making a number of strong moves as he progressed up to eighth place by the chequered flag.
Race two on Sunday afternoon saw Higgins – who is backed by Flight Focus 365, United Rental Systems and TC Concepts – in the thick of the action as he moved up the order to clinch seventh place.
The weekend’s third and final contest saw the second-year driver cap off another impressive outing with commendable drive as he shadowed his team-mates to fifth place at the finish.
James Higgins: “On the whole it has been another strong weekend for me personally with three more top-eight finishes and the fact that we have managed to maintain our position in the Drivers’ Championship.
“Coming into the weekend it was always going to be somewhat of a challenge because I was missing opening practice but we got our heads down and managed to get up to speed by Saturday morning for qualifying.
“Had we not lost the lap in qualifying the weekend may have been panned out very differently but we can’t dwell on things. We’re consistently showing that we have the pace and I’m confident that that first win is just around the corner – hopefully at Silverstone in a few days’ time.”
The ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA is back in action in just a few days’ time on June 15/16 around the world-famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
