James Higgins shows fighting spirit north of the border

James Higgins showcased his fighting spirit this past weekend (August 10/11) as he produced a battling display in the latest three rounds of the 2024 ROKiT British F4 Championship certified by FIA at Knockhill.

Making the annual trip north of the border, the Rodin Motorsport driver bounced back from a mistake in qualifying to claim two hard-fought points finishes – both of which helped him net the Pirelli Hardest Charger Award.

Returning to action in the single-seater series after enduring a frustrating trio of races at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, the BRDC Rising Star had hoped to make an impression on the front of the field in Scotland but that sadly wasn’t to be.

A minor mistake in qualifying on Saturday proved costly as the teenager was forced to start all three contests from towards the rear of the field; however that didn’t deter him from making his mark on the meeting.

Race one saw the multiple race-winner demonstrate what he’s capable of as he carved his way up the order to finish 12th, making a number of eye-catching moves along the way.

Higgins was a man on a mission in the weekend’s second bout as well however contact with a rival driver at mid-distance subsequently forced him into the pit lane and out of the race.

Keen to bounce back from his earlier travails, Higgins concluded his weekend north of the border with another superlative performance as he progressed all the way up to 11th come the chequered flag.

Heading back down south, Higgins remains firmly in contention for a top-five finish in the Drivers’ Championship.

James Higgins: “This weekend has arguably been the story of my season where we’ve had the pace and potential for so much more.

“I’ll hold my hands up and say that the mistake in qualifying was firmly on me and we’ve paid the price. Had we been up inside the top six then everything would have been very different and we’d be potentially talking about some podiums.

“Instead we had to fight our way from the back of the grid and while I’m proud of the drives I put in, I know this was a missed opportunity. Donington Park isn’t too far away so hopefully we can bounce back there and get back to where we belong.”

The ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA continues on the 24/25 August with Rounds 22, 23 & 24 taking place around the Grand Prix layout of Donington Park.
