James Higgins continued his fine start in the 2024 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA this past weekend (11-12 May) as he scored a trio of top-five finishes at Brands Hatch.
Hot on the heels of charging to a podium finish at the Donington Park curtain-raiser a fortnight ago, the Rodin Motorsport maintained his front-running form as he clinched a brace of fourth place finishes and a fifth.
Qualifying on Saturday saw a fierce battle for pole position play out with a little over two tenths of a second covering the top five. Despite his best efforts, Higgins would end the session in fifth, placing him firmly in the mix to battle for both points and prizes.
With the second fastest times from qualifying deciding the grid for race one, the teenager lined up in eighth and enjoyed a relatively untroubled drive to progress up the order come the chequered flag.
Avoiding a multi-car incident as the lights went out, the Rodin racer picked up a handful of positions on the opening lap before the safety car neutralised proceedings. Holding position on the restart, Higgins was unchallenged for the remainder of the contest to net fifth place.
Race two saw Higgins produce a similar showing as he again moved forward from eighth to clinch fourth.Starting the final race of the weekend on the third row of the grid, Higgins concluded the second meeting of the campaign with another measured drive as he stayed out of trouble and progressed to fourth place.
Leaving Brands Hatch, Higgins has consolidated second in the Drivers’ Championship while also helping Rodin Motorsport edge closer to the summit in the Teams’ Championship.
James Higgins: “I think the best way to describe the weekend is ‘steady’ because we just kept our head down, stayed out of trouble and picked up a nice haul of points.
“It would have been nice to be on the podium but we perhaps didn’t have that last tenth that would have put us on the box. Everyone at Rodin did a mega job as always though and I can’t thank them enough for all of their hard work.
“We remain in second place in the standings heading to Snetterton which is good, however we will need to come out swinging there because we can’t lose too much more ground to Deagen (Fairclough) in the standings.”
The 2024 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA season continues in less than two weeks’ time with Rounds 7, 8 and 9 taking place at Snetterton.
