Sorry for the terrible photos! Round 6 of the Bayford Meadows Honda Clubman Race, James’ 3rd owner driver race.
Overall another positive learning experience. Running in LICA Motorsport colours for the first time, testing went very well on Saturday.
Qualifying – James was fastest through most of the session but messed up the last corner on his best lap left him 7th, with 8 hundredths covering 2 to 7! A last corner mistake costing 1.5 tenths!
Pre-Final 1 – Started 7th, bumped down to 10th briefly, but finished a strong 6th at the back of the lead group.
Pre-Final 2 – Started 6th – finished 2nd after some monster overtaking and just off the bumper of Alfie Brooks who won.
Final – Started 2nd, lost a place due to Ryan Willis (works Project One team) but ran 3rd for the first 3 laps. Tyres really came in on the next lap he went for 2nd place in an optimistic move, but unfortunately tagged Ryan and span. It was deemed a racing incident, no penalty, but James should have waited another lap or 2 for a cleaner move. Down to 13th losing 6.5 seconds, then a storming come back drive to 6th, setting fastest lap of the race and weekend on the way. He was 6.55 sec off the lead at the flag. Another trophy for leading rookie, next time hopefully the one for winning!
