An expensive but ultimately productive meeting!
Saturday started wet and horrible.
Session 1 – full wet and for some reason just could not get the kart to work, simply no grip even with our best wet set-up.
Session 2 – No better, and feeling down. What to do? Lewis “I’ve got a Synergy chassis in the back of the van, shall we give it a go?” Mark “May as well, but I’m not buying one!)
Session 3 – Now dry and on the Synergy, 52.9 after 7 laps. Oh dear.
Rest of the day just got better, and faster………….
Qualifying – We were actually disappointed with 3rd as we were quickest at the end of Saturday. Zach Ripley pulled out a massive lap to be 0.340 faster, but we were only 0.001 off 2nd Place.
Heat 1– 2nd after a tense scrap with Ronnie Mansfield.
Heat 2 – too close to call throughout the race but couldn’t make up the place lost at the first corner – 3rd
Final – Zach Ripley was in a class of his own and took an easy win. This was easily James’ best final, full off close racing. On lap 4 James moved up to 2nd with a clean move on Ronnie Mansfield. For the next 9 laps James lead the chain of karts in pursuit of Zach, then 4 corners from the end Ronnie got by! The following corner James returned the favour and re-passed him! A couple of defensive corners later and James finished 2nd, his best finish in Owner Driver karting.
The only thing left to do was trade in the Zip for a Synergy!!!
